Obituary

Mary Ann Matulka, 80 of Grand Island, a loving wife, mother and grandmother died Friday, July 6, 2012 at St. Francis Medical Center, Grand Island.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Grand Island with the Rev. Joseph K. Joseph officiating. Inurnment will be in Westlawn memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive freinds from 4 - 7 p.m. Monday, July 9, 2012 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with the parish rosary recited at 7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Blessed Sacrament Church. Apfel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Ann Matulka was born September 27, 1931 in Loup City, Nebraska the daughter of Stanley and Stella (Slominski) Wardyn. She received her education and grew up in Loup City graduating from Loup City Public School in 1949 and St. Francis School of Nursing in Grand Island.

She was united in marriage to Fred Matulka November 12, 1950 in Loup City. The couple made their home in Omaha, Schuyler and later Grand Island where she was a homemaker.

She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, past president of Union Pacific Old Timers Club and a 4-H Leader. She enjoyed bingo, playing card games, and loved to cook, bake and garden.

Mary Ann is survived by her husband, Fred, to whom she was happily married to for over 60 years; eight children and their spouses, Lu & Kent Pavelka of Omaha, Kathie & Tim Moffett of Troy, MT, Pat & Dave Gilmore of Gretna, NE, Fred & Deb Matulka of Lincoln, NE, Sue Matulka & Dave Vaughn of River Falls, WI, Mark & Pam Matulka of Olathe KS, George & Erin Matulka of Alliance, NE, Tim & JJ Matulka of Gretna, NE along with 25 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother and sister in law, Jim & Geri Wardyn of St. Paul, NE and many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley & Stella Wardyn, brother, Don Wardyn, grandsons, Brian McMahon and Nicholas Matulka.
