Obituary

Gregory Edward Matulka was born September 14, 1952 in David City, Nebraska , the son of Edward Joseph and Dorothy Marie (Mancheski) Matulka and passed away in Omaha, Nebraska on July 6, 2013 at the age of 60 years, 9 months, 22 days. Greg attended Dwight Assumption Grade School and was a 1970 graduate of Aquinas High School in David City, NE. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1970 and served through 1974 as an aircraft maintenance specialist and technician with his name placed on three planes. He reached the rank of Sergeant. On October 23, 1999 Greg was united in marriage to JoAnn Ellen “Jo” Brandenburgh at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Ulysses, NE. Greg was the owner/operator of M & S Land Improvement and Greg’s Repair, since 1993. He took great pride in his business, improving the land and he cherished all the great friends he met along the way. He was a diesel mechanic, working on many motors to get them running to perfection. He enjoyed fishing with his family and especially on his beloved pond on the Dwight/Ulysses corner. Greg was proud of his service to his country, enlisting to serve in Vietnam when he was 17 years old. Greg’s main goal was to keep improving his home and as he called it “God’s Little Acre” and building up his business. Greg was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Ulysses and Dwight American Legion #110. 

Greg is preceded in death by his father, Edward J. Matulka and his daughter, Sherry Matulka. 

Survivors include his wife, Jo (Brandenburgh) Matulka; children, Joe and Wendy Matulka, Seward, Angie and Kenny Pence, Seward, Greg Matulka, Jr., Lincoln; mother, Dorothy Matulka, Canistota, SD; grandchildren, Justin, Emma and Grace Matulka, Kristen and Nathan Pence; step-grandchildren, Brandon and Shalyn Prochnow, Lane Watson; sisters, Mari Matulka and John E. Sidzyik, Bellevue, Dolly and Scott Lund, Canistota, SD, Betsy and Joe Bridgeford, Omaha; brothers-in-law, Ron Brandenburgh, Ulysses, Russ Brandenburgh, Beaver Crossing; nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers, and memories of life shared with Greg.
