FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Q. What is the meaning of the coat of arms graphic in the website header?

A. The coat of arms graphics depicts the modern coat of arms for Moravia, a part of the Czech Republic. For now, Moravia is assumed to be the ancestral homeland for the Matulka family. Frank Matulka, Sr., his wife and both of their parents were born in Moravia. There are, however, other Matulka family members from Bohemia and Slovakia so it is possible that Moravia is not the original ancestral homeland. If further information is found to confirm an orginal homeland other than Moravia, the graphic may have to be updated as appropriate.

Q. Where does this family tree information come from?

A.

The simple answer is any where it can be found. That includes previous work completed by other researchers into the Matulka family tree, other related family trees, information provided or submitted by relatives, public records and genealogy databases both free and commercial. The information on this website is a combination of information from all those sources. Sometimes different sources may have conflicting information. In that case, both pieces of information will be included and so noted unless one source can be conclusively verified.

All family members and visitors to this website can greatly help this project by correcting any errors, submitting pictures, suggesting leads, conducting their own research into unknown parts of the family tree, providing feedback or creating original material (such as writing stories about family members, creating slideshows, audios, videos, etc.). Contact the webmaster by sending an email to Bob @ MatulkaFamilyTree.org  (leave out the space before and after the "@").

Q. Why aren't there any "cool" family pictures on the home page?

A.

The graphics contained on the home page are being kept to a minimum (just a website header) in order that the page loads reasonably fast for anyone with a slow Internet connection. So the plan is for home page to be like a directory and contain a long list of links to other pages within the website where pictures, graphics and other slower-loading content will be placed.

TIP: You'll find links to the pictures we have in the family tree charts. The pictures linked in each family tree chart are relevant to that family tree. So, for example, if you want to see pictures from a different branch of the family tree, you can go to the appropriate family tree chart for the links. Some pictures, of course, are repeated across different family trees as relevant.

Q. How come there is no or little information included about me or my relative?

A.

The simple answer is because this is all we have. If you have additional or corrected information about someone who should be included in the Matulka family tree, PLEASE send us an email with that information to the webmaster. The completeness and accuracy of this Family Tree depends on the participation and collaboration of all family members.

The same answer applies to why there is more information for some individuals and less information for others. The family members who have information need to submit it for us to be able to include it on this website.

Q. What does the number in the family tree charts mean? (e.g. Frank Matulka Sr. is number 00001)

A.

There is NO special meaning for the number other than it is being used as a unique identifier for each individual in the family tree. Because many relatives have the same first names across the generations (e.g., Frank and Mary), it can be very hard to keep track of which Frank is which individual. So Frank Sr. and Frank Jr., for example, have been given different identifying numbers. The initial number assignment itself was random and is only being used by this website.

Tip: If you want to correspond about a particular individual or submit more information, including the unique identifying number (if one is shown in the family tree charts) will help avoid errors.
